30 B4 30

30B430_bI was having yet another idle drunken chat with a good friend of mine about not being as active as we once were, and being closer to 30 than we would like to admit. Through the fog of denial emerged an idea to challenge ourselves in some way.

After a couple of weeks of batting around ideas we settled on what we are calling ‘30B430’. The idea is that we had to take part in 30 events before the youngest of us turns the big twenty ten (giving us around 19 months). We have only stipulated 3 rules. One, we both had to take part in the event. Two, the event must be available to Joe Public. Three, we cannot take part in the same event twice. Simple.

We very quickly realised that if all of the events we choose are physical, two a month could be a push, especially when one of the events we are doing is the London Marathon.

So, we’ve decided to add some less physical events into the schedule and have a bit of fun at the same time. The outline list – although it’s not completely tied down yet – includes lung bursting events such as the London Marathon and the Helly Hanson Challenge but weaved amongst these are events like The World Stone Skimming Championships and The World Pooh Sticks Championships.

We have completed 2 events so far: a 5k Fun Run dressed as Santa, and the aptly named Brutal 10, which you can read about on our blog at www.thirtybefore30.blogspot.com.

Whilst doing the challenge we’re raising money for the One Foundation, a charity which has close connections with BURN and does a lot of amazing work in Africa. You can find our more about them here www.onedifference.org/the-one-foundation. If you feel like supporting our cause with a couple of quid, then you can sponsor us here www.justgiving.com/30b430.

I’ll keep you update on how things progress over the coming weeks…
